NEW PROJECT FOR THE CÁVADO RIVER GREEN CORRIDOR

SUMMARY was selected to develop the rehabilitation project for several public parks and a set of supporting buildings. This project covers an area of ​​45 hectares and will involve the participation of a multidisciplinary collective, including ADF, Floradata, Rita Guedes and Atelier BBV.

PUBLIC HOUSING – S. MARÇAL, OEIRAS

Start of construction – two buildings with 48 dwellings and commercial spaces, an urban park and new streets. The project consists of prefabricated three-dimensional modules with a steel structure, entirely finished in factory and later assembled on-site.

DOCUMENTARY “HABITAR” AT CASA DA ARQUITECTURA

The premiere showing of the documentary “Habitar,” directed by Joaquín Mora and produced by Canal180, filled the Álvaro Siza Space at Casa da Arquitectura. Dedicated to the city of Porto and starring a group of nine inhabitants, the film served as an introduction to the conversation under the theme “The House We Want to Live In.” This conversation brought together Joaquín Mora, Fátima Vilar, resident of the SAAL-Antas housing, and architects Pedro Ramalho and Samuel Gonçalves.

SUMMARY integrates the conference series “In Action – How Do We Build Today,” organized by Ordem dos Arquitetos and curated by DepA. In these lectures and debates, one of the key paradoxes in contemporary architecture is addressed: the challenge of resource scarcity alongside the necessity to increase and accelerate construction.

4 MODULAR KINDERGARTENS IN LISBON

As a result of high demand and high costs, Portugal is increasing its network of public kindergartens . This film explores one year of construction of four modular kindergartens in Lisbon.

IN PROCESS – MAIA ARCHITECTURE MONTH ’23

MAM’23 – “EM PROCESSO” exhibition documents some of the main interventions that are currently taking place in Maia, focusing on public projects. Architects and professionals from other disciplines are invited to present their views on these transformations. SUMMARY’s curatorial proposal presents itself as an ode to change, urban evolution, and social dynamics that Maia is currently the stage for.

COST-CONTROLLED HOUSING

SUMMARY is working with five Portuguese municipalities to develop cost-controlled housing projects. The studio has been developing and implementing modular and prefabricated systems to respond to the challenges of the housing crisis within the deadlines stipulated in the PRR – the Portuguese Recovery and Resilience Plan. These social housing projects, which total 150 homes across the five municipalities, will be completed by June 2026.

SUSTAINABILITY | CONCRETA

“Construction processes that allow for greater optimization will also, naturally, allow for a reduction in the consumption of resources, such as energy and water, necessary in construction. And that’s where prefabrication can make a fundamental contribution.” – Samuel Gonçalves for Concreta.

THE REASONS OFFSITE – CASA DA ARQUITECTURA

“The Reasons Offsite,” a curatorial project created by SUMMARY, on display at the Casa da Arquitectura – Portuguese Centre for Architecture between June and October 2022. This virtual exhibition provides a radiograph of the historical evolution of modular and prefabricated architecture through 25 constructive systems and tests produced by Jorge Christie & Martin Alvarez, Pablo Jimenez Moreno, Pedro Alonso & Hugo Palmarola, and Yona Friedman.

MAM’19 – FAST FORWARD

This edition of Maia Architecture Month focuses on a program that aims to think about the future of the city of Maia, where a group of emerging architects were invited to imagine, exhibit, discuss, reflect and revisit the architecture of the city of Maia in the year 2119 in a utopian and dystopian way. SUMMARY participates with the Virtual Reality installation “The Tunnel”, where it revisits the project for the N14 tunnel developed in 2004 by João Álvaro Rocha, in a prospective and provocative way.

EXHIBITION “FACTORY-MADE HOUSING: A SOLUTION FOR LONDON?”

What opportunities and challenges does factory-made housing present the future of housing in London? Roundtables, viewpoints and interviews, have been combined with a call out for projects to produce this piece of research into factory-made housing. The outcomes of this have formed a publication, this exhibition and a series of events.

ARCHITECTURE INSTALLATION – MAXXI, ROME

“What happens next (?)” is the proposal for the Young Architects Program competition in partnership with MAXXI, in Rome. For this competition, we were invited to propose a temporary intervention for a space for outdoor activities: a space for research and innovation, with particular attention to ecological issues, and recreational spaces.

MULTIPLICITY – LISBON ARCHITECTURE TRIENNALE

Multiplicity is an exhibition curated by Tau Tavengwa and Vyjayanthi Rao, that features the work of individuals, practices and organisations from across the globe experimenting in myriad ways with architecture, while reclaiming and redefining it as a powerful tool in fighting for environmental, economic and social equity and justice. Held at the MNAC – Museu Nacional de Arte Contemporânea within the Lisbon Architecture Triennale.

THE REASONS OFFSITE – ITINERANT EXHIBITION

SUMMARY creates “The Reasons Offsite”, an immaterial exhibition. The project presents a collection of significant buildings and construction systems in the context of the historical evolution of modular and prefabricated architecture. It has been presented in several venues such as Casa da Arquitetura (PT); Neufert Box, Weimar (DE); University of Edinburgh (UK); Boston Society of Architects/AIA – Boston, Massachussets (USA); KÉK- Contemporary Architecture Centre, Budapest (HU).
