PREMIERE OF THE DOCUMENTARY “HABITAR” AT CASA DA ARQUITECTURA

The premiere showing of the documentary “Habitar” by Chilean director Joaquín Mora, produced by Canal180, filled the Álvaro Siza Space at Casa da Arquitectura with viewers. Dedicated to the city of Porto and starring a group of nine inhabitants, the film served as an introduction to the conversation that followed, under the theme “The House We Want to Live In.”  This conversation brought together the voices of Joaquín Mora;  Fátima Vilar, resident of the SAAL-Antas housing; and architects Pedro Ramalho and Samuel Gonçalves.

4 MODULAR KINDERGARTENS IN LISBON

The supply of kindergartens in Portugal is scarce, prices are high, and the poor architectural and construction qualities do not guarantee the necessary conditions for the nurturing of children. However, there is still optimism for a better future. The Building Pictures crew followed SUMMARY studio through the construction process of four public kindergartens in Lisbon for a year, resulting in this film.

SUMMARY is working with five Portuguese municipalities to develop controlled-cost housing projects. The studio has been developing and implementing modular and prefabricated systems to respond to the challenges of the housing crisis within the deadlines stipulated in the PRR – the Portuguese Recovery and Resilience Plan. These social housing projects, which total 150 homes across the five municipalities, will be completed by June 2026.

IN PROCESS – MAIA ARCHITECTURE MONTH ’23

The Maia City Council promoted Architecture Month – an event entirely dedicated to architecture in the territory of Maia.    The “EM PROCESSO” exhibition documents some of the main interventions that are currently taking place or are scheduled in the near future in the Municipality of Maia, with an emphasis on public-oriented projects. Architects, as well as professionals from other disciplines, are invited to present their views on these transformations. SUMMARY’s curatorial proposal, coordinated by Samuel Gonçalves, presents itself as an ode to change, urban evolution, and the social and economic dynamics that Maia is currently the stage for.

THE REASONS OFFSITE – CASA DA ARQUITECTURA

The objective of this exhibition is to provide a radiograph of the different moments in the evolution of modular and prefabricated architecture (“offsite” architecture), from the 17th century to contemporary times, through a critical and forward-looking perspective. The Reasons Offsite showcases 25 buildings or construction systems that were precursors in the field of prefabricated and modular construction, including projects by anonymous authors, but also works by world-renowned designers,such as Jean Prouvé, Buckminster Fuller, Shigeru Ban or MVRDV.     Photography © IvoTavares
